Many of you have never seen this page and those that have, asked to keep it
original. I'll try but certain things need to be changed,
added, corrected, or simply updated to reflect today's status in the NASCAR®
retailing marketplace. The majority of information
below is what I directly experienced as a former storefront owner. The remainder
comes from trusted sources that have also been
affected at some time. Use any/all information that can
help you avoid closing shop. With the market being saturated now's a good
time to barter and there's plenty of deals to be found. Unfortunately many of
these deals are by third party dealers who are supplied
by some of the very distributor's listed here. Shop around and think twice about
auto-ship. And don't buy in to hype!
This page will eventually be completely updated.

Distributor Info
(Image below previously found on DiecastDreams.com)
Dealers please note:
If you're buying from a distributor that also retails, they're competing directly
against you for your customers. Look at their advertising, it's aimed
towards your customers, not to advertise their wholesale programs. They
can also control what you get, when you get it, and how many. You're at their
mercy. Think about it, who are they going to take care of first? A close source
called to inquire on their preorders and was told by a new employee at the distributor
that they were in the second batch of shipments to arrive. When asked why not
the first, they were told that their retail shelves were stocked first, then
their retail website orders, then they ship to dealers.
"Mom & Pop" stores are closing on a daily basis. Yes the economy's
down, but the trickery that has been taking place by a number of distributors
has compounded the problems many times over. Dumping product and sometimes blatantly,
selling to just about anybody with a bulge in their pocket (cash), hoarding
key items, selling to mass retail, supplying flea markets, selling below wholesale
in their own stores, selling themselves at a show and at wholesale to the public,
and so much more...
Order from those that want to see your
business grow! Help support Non-competing distributors.
Consumers please note: Please try and purchase
from a legitmate retail storefront in your area to show your support. If you
can't, please order from retail websites that aren't listed below as distributors.
By supporting your local storefront dealer you'll also be helping to "hold"
or even "increase" the value of your diecast purchase. And you never
know, you just may enjoy talking to your local dealer once in a while!
And a note to Action and it's Distributors: I feel that the single largest
problem is allowing a distributor to retail, some aggressively. According to
Denise Roberts, Action required distributors to have a showroom to exhibit product
to increase sales/exposure. While it may have been helpful, it left the barn
door wiiiiiiide open. And with no strict regulatory control over the product
distribution channel, they're dumping this stuff anywhere it can be stuffed
(or are told to?). After the death of Dale Earnhardt this market saw an explosion
of new customers and an increase in demand. Much of this was due to weekend
warriors and money hungry part-timers that seen a buck to be made. Instead of
controlling the production numbers (leaving them alone), they were brought up
to mass market levels. And after things calmed down and the part-timers thinned
out, what happened? OVER PRODUCTION AND STORE CLOSINGS! The very storefronts
that have helped build and promote your products for years....they're the ones
paying for your ill decisions.

I'd called and spoke to Debbie about a storefront
dealer who was turning a good number of Chase jackets, caps, and tee's at
the Kentucky Flea Market (and at ridiculous prices). She agreed that it shouldn't
be happening and would report it to Action Sports Image, that is, until she
found out it was her own customer.
An email I received: (You have us listed with a retail
phone number. By way of explanation: the "retail store" the number
reaches is a counter in a Chevrolet dealership which is owned by the same
group that owns GPS. We do provide that number in our advertising simply to
keep retail callers of the wholesale lines. The retail number really is a
separate entity that orders from us just like any other retailer and therefore
cannot sell at a discount. It's there to provide service for customers in
the area that have no other store to go to. While it may be strictly true
to show that we have a retail telephone number, in the context of your website
it is misleading and derogatory. You have comments under our name referring
to "Debbie" and a flea marketer. Who is Debbie? We do not now nor
have we in our memory employed a Debbie. This appears to infer that Debbie
is our employee. Please delete these comments or be more clear as to the source
if you feel they are valid. I welcome your response.

I was wrong on the name and apologize. It was Stephanie
whom I spoke too. I was checking past emails and found my correspondence with
Action which had the correct name mentioned.

Had been discovered to be dumping product
on eBay® in mid 2002. A number of off-track vendors (at Talladega)
claim to use these guys because they dump often. This is also the source of
dumped product at the Kentucky Flea Market via Kollectors Korner in Clarksville,
IN which had severely hampered local shop owners. After reporting this to
Action we were assured that this wasn't happening and they'd look into it.
A follow up call by Denise Roberts simply proved that nothing was going to
be done. In fact, she was more concerned about HOW we found out, rather than
what we found out. We were told that flea markets have been around and will
be around for another 1,000 years. This phone conversation wasn't the least
bit encouraging. We also asked for complete confidentialty but our name must've
been the first thing outta their mouth's. The flea market vendor had to make
a trip to MusicCity after his product didn't arrive. He was then cussed at
for not taking the shipping labels off his prior purchased cases. He said
that the distributor was also cursing our store by name for finding out, and
reporting to Action. The flea market vendor informed me that he was taking
between $9,000.00 and sometimes up to $20,000.00 CASH, and getting his 1/24
diecast for $15-20.00 each. Yet our wholesale cost was $35-40.00 for the same
stock (and we were a storefront?). The flea market prices were at our wholesale
cost! And, the flea markets are gaining popularity with diecast collectors
due to their wholesale prices. We purchased 1/24 Action Spider-Man cars for
$24.00ea. Our distributor was wanting $36.00 each plus shipping.
We've also received a call from one of their former
affiliates saying that they never once received any type of payment and couldn't
understand why if people were signing up through their link. He was told that
if the customer bought discounted product it couldn't be counted. In other
words when the consumer goes through your web link and signs up for their
15% discount club membership, they don't give you a credit for anything they
buy. Needless to say he tired of giving them business and getting nothing
in return. You gotta read the fine print people!
(1-14-04) Have been told by Buck Buckholz
that he purchased the store are no longer affiliated with them except for
an occational buy.

website - (9) Retail Mall locations in 6
states, CO, IN, IL, ND, SD, MN, IO, NE, and WI. Owner Bill White also happened
to be a participant in the Yahoo! Financial Message Boards: 2107,
2119,
2154.
I have to give Bill credit for being the ONLY distributor to participate in
any message forum. A customer of ours cancelled their
request to get a 2002 Action #29 Hauler. When I asked why, he said he picked
one up at the Mall of America store for $30.00. That's $9.00 under our wholesale
and it was on this distributors retail shelf to the public. Other items were
also purchase under dealer cost.
Have added 4 retail stores since last update of this
page.
Bill White says that he helped start the company some
9 years ago and did have total management control over the wholesale division,
but was never the owner. He says he's no longer employed at or affiliated
with the company. He has started his own distribution business since leaving
Pro. He says, "I will be distributing many unique and different products.
I will offer some custom run and exclusive items as well as some of the traditional
items to the dealer network. As always I make the dealer first and will keep
the dealer first."
You may contact Bill White at Phoenix Distributing 763-323-4131 or 763-427-3306.
Thanks for the update Bill! (8-3-2004)

Update: We'd previously
reported that they had a retail website but have since been assured that the
website was sold some time ago. The only error was that the domain name registrer
wasn't updated to reflect it's new and current owner. Current registrant records
show: Phillip Rideout P.B.R. Industries Inc. 1601 Larkin Williams Road Fenton,

(no longer a distributor) Their ads say "Authorized
Wholesaler", while some still show them as an Action Distributor. Don't
know what that means but I've seen a price list that's hard to beat. And at
one time they had "custom" diecast listed as well (haven't seen
them in a while).
Have received recent ('03) jacket
price list for $49.95ea for Chase 2003 twill jackets. Link
here (in case
link no longer works try this one here).
- Twin Hills - retail

Have heard from numerous individuals that this was
the source of product to the Simpsonville, Ky Flea Market. Often times the
booth dealer would acquire his new releases a week earlier than our retail
storefront. And always had lower retail since he lacked the storefront overhead.
Their Yahoo Search description says "Dealers buy
them from us, why don't you?".

Currently listed Team Caliber Distributor's
(in Alphabetical order)
Regardless of rumors, I believe the Owners Series is
the best product available dollar for dollar. Detail, packaging, and production
numbers are outstanding. The new Dark Chrome Series production numbers are
only in the hundreds! The new lineup of Haulers should be competitive as well.
And Team Caliber's double-wall master boxes also insure fewer damages, unlike
corner pieces being damaged on a regular basis with their competition. Delivery
times are also consistant and production cancellations are far, far less than
their competition. The only thing lacking are those elusive few drivers that
we all know so well. If it weren't for that, this brand would be lapping all
others. Keep those numbers low, product arrival on schedule and sales will continue
to increase!
Our recommendations: Order direct from Team Caliber. It may cost an extra
buck or two but you'll get lower numbers and most importantly, you'll get what
you ordered.
Other manufacturers/distributors of NASCAR®
collectibles (in Alphabetical order)
- Character Collectibles - website
Maker of resin cast figurines.
Our recommendations: One of their sales reps visited our store trying
convince us to order. After all the untruths we'd been told by manufacturers
I declined and decided to see where else they would surface. Good thing we
didn't go deeper in debt. Even after his assurance that we wouldn't see them
in mass retail....we did! Sears has them in their Holiday Catalog, and we
found them at the flea market as well.
- Checkered Flag Sports - Manufacturer/Distributor
of Officially Licensed Jackets, Tees, and Caps.
Another "dollar for dollar" company that you can't go wrong with.
They were quick to put out the First Win tees of Newman and Johnson and their
Johnson Cap was perhaps the best seller in our caps lineup. Once again, the
price is what seals the deal after you've seen the great quality. I hope these
guys don't run astray like some of the others on this page! They also stock
Ward Burton among other drivers and all of the maufacturers. Caps are also
available in camo/orange for those huntin' but thinkin' racing fans.
Our recommendations: I was well pleased with service and product, and you
didn't see the stuff at the flea markets. Order early and try
some of the ladies apparel as well.
545 Hollie Drive / Martinsville, VA / 24112
Still one of my favorites. Their latest catalog is looking
even better.
- Fun Stuff - website
Muscle Machines diecast.
These things were HOT when they first made the scene. The 1/64 blister
packs brought $5 - $15.00 each on eBay® because they were hard
to find. The 5-packs followed and then the big 1/18 scale. We tried many times
to contact someone about carrying their product line but was unsuccessful.
This manufacturer seemed like a ghost and it was some time before their website
was functional (even though printed on every package). Everyone we contacted
didn't want to give much information since they wanted to carry it on a regular
basis also. Full Grid was the main source until their closing. We later eased
our pursuit once we heard that this product was heading to Target®
stores. One contact argued this rumor but 2 weeks later there they were. The
5-packs also followed. Our contact wasn't thrilled with this news but said
he was assured that the 1/18 scales would never be in mass retail. A few weeks
later there they were. And ToysRus soon had the complete lineup as well. Now
virtually every mass retailer stocks this product and at to competitive of
prices for specialty shops. Sounds like many of the first sellers were merely
stepping stones to enter the mass retail market.
Our recommendations: If your going to settle for nickel and dime profits,
open a candy store.
Action-Performance has since acquired this company Story
- Hunter Manufacturing - Our sales rep tried
to assure us that we wouldn't see a lot of their product in the mass retail
marketplace and if we did it wouldn't be in the same packaging as what our
specialty shop would stock. Much of the product is identical, and what little
difference in packaging there was didn't make up for the cost in the consumers
eyes. Much of their product can be found at mass retail stores and at too
competitive of prices. In fact, Meijer's in Louisville, Ky clearenced their
shot glasses to $2.00, which was well below our wholesale cost. Ceramic plates
were found at Wal-Mart $5.00 below our MSRP of $24.95. The outer sleeve being
the only difference.
Our recommendations: Stick with the pilsner glasses and barstools (at least
until they hit the mass market hard and cheap).
- Jeff Hamilton Industries Inc., - website
Officially Licensed Twill & Leather Jackets. Action
acquired Jeff Hamilton Industries Inc., for a reported $4.5 million and will
operate under the name Jeff Hamilton Collection.
Our recommendations: Now that Action has their Winner's Circle Jackets
in Wal-Mart's for $59.99, that's the way to go (imagine the prices when some
make it to clearance time!)
We found the #8 Dale Jr. Bud in several sizes (and yes it said
Bud). The leather versions are hanging in Kmart's for $99.00. They may not
be the exact equivalents but I really
don't see the additional $100-300.00 its counterpart requires.... Buy the
cheaper jacket, then with the money you saved buy one for your wife. You should
have enough left
to treat her to dinner out in, guess what?....your new jackets. Don't forget
eBay® also has a slew of jackets, most near wholesale.
Jacket prices are at their lowest for last years twill
variety. Have received several newsletters with $49.99 - $59.99 prices
Link
here (in case
link no longer works try here).
(The following comment is to the jacket industry overall, not to any individual
business, here goes)
I never new what the hell was really going on! Everyone had their own theory
but I don't think anyone really knew (or noticed) what was happening. When
we'd order direct we'd get
what we ordered, but if ordered through an Action Distributor (or independant)
we never knew what we'd get. And sometimes the distributors couldn't explain
it either. What I'm
getting at is this, you'd order a Chase jacket and it would be a Jeff Hamilton,
order a JH Design and it would be a Chase, order a Chase and it would be a
Chase but would have JH Design
buttons complete with the spare in the pocket. And it's hard to explain this
to a customer on what exactly they'll be receiving until it arrived.
- Salvino's - website
Bears/Bammers. Sleeves of 10. Good prices.
Fernando Villegas 877-725-8466 ext. 234
- Wateree Sports - I was pleased at first but
became aggravated after a prior conversation turned untrue. I'd explained
that I didn't want to order their product, push their product, receive their
product, push more of their product, and then find their product cheaper elsewhere.
I was assured that they were the only distributor and it had to go through
them, so we paid the $34.99 wholesale. Around three weeks later we received
a monthly sales flier from Bobby McCollough Racing Collectibles offering the
same exact Grip Collectibles 1/64 haulers for only $30.00 each.
Our recommendations: Stick with the Petty caps. Other than the race trailer
this is the only source and the cap quality is excellent.
803-327-2776 EXT 221 Fax: 803-327-5832
- Wincraft Racing - website
We filled out and signed the dealer resale application they requested. Yes,
the one that stated you had to be a retail storefront and couldn't sell at
flea market levels. We were also assured that much of their product was tailored
to specialty shops. Shortly after our initial shipment arrived, we found a
complete booth at the Kentucky Flea Market with WinCraft product (some fresh
product retailing at our cost). When reported to our sales rep we were told
that they were very disappointed to hear about this and were serious about
cutting flea market sellers off. The sellers were a no show at the next months
dates, but returned the following month with fresh stock! We were also stunned
to find an endcap full of product at a local Kmart (all below our retail).
Our recommendations: Let Martha do the selling.
